Winter Light

here is a whole field of this and at least two other varieties of this tall prairie grass at Cherokee Marsh. It is quite dramatic in any light at any time of day and in any season. Still, I have always found it challenging to capture that drama in a photograph. It all comes down to the angle of the sun behind the grass – where you put that grass between the camera and the sun makes a huge difference.

It was damn cold this day and I had given up on photographing wildlife as there were a few noisy skiers and a dog in the park. One dog walking through an area will create a wildlife void that lasts for a long time… usually too long to wait there for animals and birds to return.
