Say ‘Cheese’

Opie, you haven’t finished your milk.
We can’t put it back in the cow, you know.

No Grief on the Green Hillside

Forget days past, heart broken, put all memory by!
No grief on the green hillside, no pity in the sky,
Joy that may not be spoken fills mead and flower and tree.

My journal entry for this photo just says “cows”.

I keep a small journal with me when I am “out in the field” shooting. The primary things I keep track of are the GPS coordinates for each photo I take so that I can “geotag” those photos when I upload them to Flickr. I usually record the road and town and then the latitude and longitude along with a brief description of the photo.

I will also record any “experimentation” – different things I may try out in certain situations. Sometimes I make note of the lighting situation if it is unusual or unusually difficult. I will often scribble “notes to self” to return to this place in a month or two when the crops are more mature, or perhaps in the fall or winter.

This journal entry just reads “cows”. The lighting was perfect, the scene was perfect and there was nothing much I could do to improve on what nature itself had created.

Cows On The Hill

If happiness truly consisted in physical ease and freedom from care,
then the happiest individual would not be either a man or a woman;
it would be, I think, an American cow.
